However, manager Silver reached out to his mother Nancy McCallum who contacted 911 and reported that no one has been in touch with the singer for the past two weeks. The police then accompanied the mother and the ex-wife Jim Meler to Layne’s apartment. It was mentioned in reports that Staley who stood at 6 feet weighed just 39 Kgs when his body was found. His body was discovered in a state of partial decomposition. Well, the medical experts needed to determine the identity of the body through the comparison of dental records.

The findings from the autopsy and toxicology report disclosed that Staley passed away due to a combination of heroin and cocaine, commonly referred to as a speedball. The autopsy findings indicate that Staley passed away approximately two weeks prior to the discovery of his body, specifically on April 5th, coincidentally the same day when Kurt Cobain, a fellow grunge musician, tragically passed away eight years earlier.
